Terms
Item Level
Numeric property existing on all items that is assigned when the item is created.
The value depends on the level of the monster that drops the item, or your character's level when shopping or gambling for the item.
Item Level determines which affixes the item can have.
Affix
Umbrella term for prefixes and suffixes, which are properties of items that grant stats.
Affixes have levels which must be lower than the item level for the affix to be applied.
All affixes have an associated required level which the host item inherits.
Affixes have names which are used to modify the name of magic items.
Most affixes only grant one stat, but some grant two.
Crafted items can have up to 4 affixes and a maximum of 3 prefixes or suffixes each.
Crafted Modifications
Set of stat bonuses that are always present on a crafted item, depending on the recipe family(Blood, Caster, Hit Power, Safety) and item type(Weapon, Ring, Amulet, etc).
These mods are completely separate from any affixes, and can stack with Affixes. For example, it is possible to combine faster cast rate from a crafted "Caster" item, and the faster cast rate bonus from the "Apprentice" suffix to get a value that is higher than what is possible on non-crafted items.
